ABOUT INDONESIA SPECIALTY BEANS FESTIVAL 2025
Indonesia Specialty Beans Festival 2025 was hosted by Bank Indonesia and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Japan at the Indonesia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
That morning, a presentation was held to mark the launch of QRIS services in Japan. At noon, guests were invited to the “Beyond Specialty Coffee & Cacao Showcase,” featuring a special coffee-brewing presentation and a talk on Indonesian cacao.

The showcase featured seven specialty coffees and two cacao selections, each introduced in Japan for the first time.
Under the theme “Beyond Specialty —
Undiscovered Gems of Indonesia,” the event explored the distinctive character, stories and untapped potential behind each product—brought to life through tasting and insights from leading
experts.
WORLD-CLASS COFFEE AND CACAO
Daiki Hatakeyama, winner of the 2024 Japan Brewers Cup, joined the event as guest barista. Through his precise brewing technique, he revealed the full aromas and flavors of the featured beans, highlighting the unique character of Indonesian specialty coffee.
Takatsugu Yamashita, founder of Minimal -Bean to Bar Chocolate-, joined as guest speaker. He introduced the distinctive qualities of Indonesian cacao and explored its potential as a remarkable ingredient.
QRIS SERVICES IN JAPAN
ANNOUNCED AT THE EXPO
The event also featured a presentation on the launch of QRIS, Indonesia’s QR-based payment system, in Japan.
The service enables QRIS users from Indonesia to make payments at participating merchants across Japan. During its initial rollout, QRIS became available at the Indonesia Pavilion, official
shops and food trucks at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
Coffee, cacao and a new cross-border payment service came together at the Indonesia Pavilion—a day that revealed the diversity of Indonesian products and initiatives to Japan.
