ABOUT SCAJ 2024
SCAJ is one of Japan’s largest specialty coffee events, bringing together producers, importers, roasters, baristas and industry professionals from around the world.
Held at Tokyo Big Sight from October 9 to 12, 2024, the event welcomed more than 75,000 visitors.
Under the theme “Indonesian Heritage Coffee,” the Indonesia Pavilion shared the distinctive coffees,
cultures and producer stories of the archipelago.
A COUNTRY OF MANY ORIGINS
Ten Indonesian coffee businesses presented coffees from Aceh, Java, West Kalimantan, Bali, Central Sulawesi, Papua and other regions.
Across Indonesia’s many islands, differences in climate, soil, altitude, varieties and processing create an extraordinary range of flavors. Through tastings and cupping sessions, visitors experienced the character of each origin, one cup at a time.
CONVERSATIONS OVER COFFEE
Ryan Wibawa, who placed third at the 2024 World Brewers Cup, brought Indonesian coffee to life through a special live-brewing session.
The pavilion also created space for conversations with Japanese roasters, cafés and importers—exploring not only flavor and quality, but also supply, collaboration and future potential in Japan.
BEYOND THE EXHIBITION
During SCAJ 2024, Indonesia House of Beans and the Specialty Coffee Association of Indonesia signed an agreement to promote Indonesian coffee in Japan.
Letters of Intent were also received from three Japanese businesses. House of Beans continues to develop these encounters into new business opportunities and lasting partnerships.
